About Kayla
I hold dual degrees in English Literature and Communication from Mount St. Mary’s University (Maryland, U.S.). During my undergraduate years, I spent three years as a writing tutor at the campus Writing Center, working with students one-on-one and in small groups.
I have worked with a range of student levels, including high school, dual enrollment, and undergraduate students.
I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Victorian Literature, History, and Culture from University of Portsmouth (U.K.), working toward a career in higher education. As a lifetime learner, and current student myself, I always aim to recognize that every student struggles, and thrives, differently!

My teaching style is grounded in encouragement and curiosity. My ultimate goal is for students to leave each session feeling more empowered as readers and writers.
I foster reading-based sessions using Socratic discussion to instill critical thinking. When it comes to writing-based work, I encourage students to take initiative in brainstorming and structuring essays, but I am always ready to step in to answer questions or offer guidance
My lessons in English Lit, Writing, and History are geared towards 8th-12th grade level (and intro lit/writing college classes).
