About Katie

My background in English Literature has provided me with a strong foundation in textual analysis, narrative structure, and thematic exploration—skills that are essential when cultivating early reading and writing skills. Studying Shakespeare’s King Lear deepened my understanding of human emotion and empathy, which I aim to bring into the primary classroom to help children build emotional literacy through storytimes and character discussions. Complementing this, my background in Media Studies equipped me with an understanding of modern literacy and theoretical frameworks from scholars like bell hooks and Stuart Hall, highlighting how young children absorb visual and digital media today. My study of Religious Studies further broadened my appreciation for moral storytelling, diverse cultural values, and ethics, enabling me to support the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of primary pupils
