About Mary

In 2024, I completed my Bachelor's Degree at Trent University with President's Honor Roll Status for academic performance. I am an aspiring teacher and an experienced tutor, and I am deeply invested in the success of students. My teaching philosophy is tripartite. The first pillar is a more holistic approach to learning. This plays out on many levels. On one, learning happens when the mind, body, soul, and spirit are engaged. On the next level, learning is inherently interdisciplinary, and concepts should not be confined to the restraints of one subject. The second pillar is one of equity. Students have varying strengths and weaknesses, which may not fall neatly in line with what is expected by the curriculum. By providing the student with stronger foundations, learning will become fun. Finally, the third pillar is one of time-sensitivity. Not every teacher applies the broader curriculum in the same way or at the same pace. I aim to work directly with the expectations of your teacher to ensure the best possible performance on assessments. I am always creating! When a difficult concept presents itself, I love designing exercises to explain it in a comprehensive and interesting way.

About the lesson

As each student is unique, generic lessons simply will not do. Each lesson will be geared toward harnessing their strengths, combatting any challenges, and ensuring that students are confident in what they are learning in the classroom in real time.

Lessons are designed to engage learners, while they work on strategies to build their focus in less-engaging settings.

Mary has been tutoring my daughter, Martina, in person for several weeks, and she is truly outstanding.

She is a natural teacher with a warm, engaging approach. While Martina sees Mary as a friend, she even calls her "the coolest girl!", Mary does an incredible job maintaining focus and customizing every lesson to Martina's specific interests.

This has been highly effective. Martina was a little behind in her reading (Grade 2), and thanks to Mary, we have seen significant improvements in both her skill and her confidence. Most importantly, Martina is now genuinely excited about learning and looks forward to seeing Mary every week.
