About Yusra
My name is Yusra, and I’m a graduate from the University of Warwick. I’ve always been interested in how people learn and express ideas, and that’s really what drew me towards teaching and supporting students alongside my studies.
English is something I’ve naturally been around for a long time - through reading, academic writing, and communication-heavy roles. At university, I completed a Psychology degree which involved a lot of essay writing, research, and critical analysis, including a dissertation. I also studied Religious Studies at A Level, where I developed strong skills in structured argument and debate writing.
Outside of academics, I’ve spent a lot of time in roles where communication and writing mattered. I’ve written reports, managed weekly newsletters as part of a student leadership role, and worked in environments where clear, calm communication was essential. Alongside this, I’ve supported students one-to-one in SEN education settings, including teaching English to students aged 8–16, which gave me real experience in adapting explanations and helping students build confidence step by step.
What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing a student go from unsure to confident - especially when they realize they can express their ideas more clearly than they thought. I’ve also had tutors myself when I was younger, so I understand what it feels like from the student side too, and I try to create a supportive, patient space where mistakes are part of learning, not something to worry about.

My lessons are very relaxed and conversational, because I’ve found that students learn best when they don’t feel pressured or “on the spot”. A lot of English confidence comes from getting comfortable with how to put thoughts into words, so I focus on helping students feel at ease first, then we build the skills from there.
I tend to work through things together in a very practical way. For reading, that might mean breaking down a passage and talking through what it actually means in simple terms. For writing, we’ll often build answers step by step - starting with ideas, then shaping them into clear paragraphs, and finally improving expression and structure so it sounds more natural and confident.
I usually run lessons for 60 minutes. We’ll typically start with whatever the student is currently working on at school, then focus on one key skill (like essay structure, comprehension, or writing clarity), and finish by practising it together so it actually sticks.
Alongside my degree from the University of Warwick, I’ve supported students one-to-one in SEN education settings, including teaching English to students aged 8–16. That experience taught me how important it is to adjust explanations depending on the student - sometimes things need to be slowed right down, sometimes they just need a different way of seeing it for it to click.
