About Sara

I am Sara, a 28-year-old girl with a passion for languages. I speak fluently three languages: English, Italian, and Spanish. I can also understand a bit of Portuguese (I hope to improve it soon!) and studied Arabic for 3 years. My love for languages has made me want to help people who want to learn languages as I know how frustrating it can be. But with me, you will see how easy and fun it can be. You just need to click the "book a class" button!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always loved languages, especially English. Then, three years ago while talking to a friend of mine, who needed help improving his English, I thought I could be the one helping him. I started getting more and more interested in the matter, then I came across the CELTA course. I took it as a sign to turn that passion of mine into my dream job!
And last year I thought more people could benefit of my way of teaching and so I started working with superprof.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

What I really enjoy as a teacher is when my students interact with each other or with me freely, when they give me their opinions on serious topics. I love creating a debate in order for them to improve their spoken skills.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I do think that a subject is more or less interesting depending on how the teacher explains it. In high school I had this English teacher that had that sparkle in her eye every time she started talking about Shakespeare or any other English writer. I used to look at her and think: I wanna be like her when I grow up!
I really hope one day some students will think that about me.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

To be a good tutor you have to be patient, you need to understand that everyone is different and has different ways of learning.
You need to adapt yourself to the student and make sure to create a comfortable environment for them to keep learning.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One day, on the last day of school, one of my students came to me and hugged me. She told me she might have not improved as much as she wanted (she actually did and did not realize as she would put a lot of pressure on herself) but she was going back home with a different perspective. She ended up loving English, she said that not only did I explain grammar rules clearly but I gave her million reasons to love the language!
That is the best thing a student has ever told me.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

The main challenge I still face while teaching English is that I have to prove some students that I AM good in my job. Some students think that non native are not as good as native speakers. They got that wrong, because what's important is the passion that drives you in becoming better and better every day.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love teaching and I love teaching English. I just hope to help as many people as I can.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

This is a tough question as I reckon it should be answered by students.
Anyway I am there for my students and I listen to them and their needs, this makes me a superprof.
