About Charlie

I'm a bassoonist and music educator currently studying a Bachelor of Music and Secondary Education at the University of Queensland, where I hold the principal bassoon chair in the UQ Symphony Orchestra. I also perform regularly with the Queensland Youth Symphony and the Queensland Baroque Orchestra.
In Grade 12, I was awarded the Associate in Music Australia (AMusA) — the AMEB's highest practical performance diploma — and was subsequently invited to perform with the UQ Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Baroque Orchestra. These experiences have given me a strong performing foundation across orchestral, baroque, and chamber repertoire.
Bassoon is a special instrument — warm, expressive, and genuinely quirky — and I'm truly passionate about it. Beyond the music itself, there's a real practical upside: bassoonists are in high demand, which makes solid players a natural fit for orchestras at every level. My own playing earned me the University of Queensland's most prestigious music scholarship, and I love helping students discover those same opportunities for themselves.
