About Anton
Hello! My name is Anton Bugaev. I am an experienced and enthusiastic chess player with a FIDE rating of 1950 in rapid and 1907 in blitz. I also have extensive experience with online chess and competitive matches.
Chess has long been an important part of my life. I have been playing chess since I was 7 years old.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping other players improve. I am patient and clear, and I tailor my explanations to each student's level.
I teach in English and Russian. My Dutch is at the A2 level, allowing me to use simple Dutch sentences and chess terminology as well.
My goal is not only to make students stronger players but also to help them find more enjoyment and confidence in the game.

In my online chess lessons, I work with beginners and intermediate players, especially with people that are stuck between 1000 and 1800 FIDE rating or have no official rating at all. Each lesson is tailored to your level, goals, and playing style. We can start by analysing your games to identify strengths, errors, and areas for improvement.
We then work on aspects such as tactics, strategic understanding, opening principles, endgames, calculation, and time management. I don't just explain which move is good; I focus on *why* a move is good or bad. This helps you learn to make better decisions independently during your games.
My lessons are practical, personalised, and clearly structured. I teach in English or Russian and can use basic Dutch chess terminology if needed.

I met Anton on the Superprof platform. I was a complete beginner in chess at the time and I wanted to start playing more often and more seriously. I chose him as my tutor and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Anton took things at exactly the right pace. He started me off with the fundamentals and made sure I actually understood them before moving on. From there we worked through openings. he explained not just what to play but the ideas behind each one, so I understood the reasoning rather than just memorising moves. Then he explained how to read a position, how to handle different situations on the board, when to attack, when to hold back, and how to think a few moves ahead.
What really stands out about Anton is his patience and the way he explains things. He never made me feel stupid for asking basic questions, and he clearly knows how to teach, not just how to play.
I’ve been taking lessons with him for a couple of months now, and the results speak for themselves. My rating on Chess.com has gone from 600 to 1100Anton is a very patient teacher. He not only has great knowledge and skill regarding chess, but he pays great attention to weak students. One would be lucky to learn from him. I highly recommend being under his tutorial. 5 stars for sure ️️️️️
I came in hoping to gain a few rating points and ended up changing the way I approach chess altogether. Anton’s coaching is incredibly structured without ever feeling rigid. He adapts to your style, challenges your thinking, and makes every lesson count. If you’re on the fence, stop overthinking it—you’ll thank yourself later.
I coached Anton in chess about 10 years ago, and even then his dedication to the game stood out. He's an incredibly hardworking student who was always ready to put in the extra effort to improve. He's also very responsive and easy to communicate with, which makes him a natural fit for teaching.
Anton has a strong level of chess himself and plays regularly online, so he stays sharp and up to date with the game. I'm confident he makes an excellent teacher — patient, engaging, and genuinely invested in his students' progress. I recommend him without hesitation.View more recommendations
