About Julianne
I have been a teacher for 30 years and have taught every subject in 5th - 8th grade. However, I have a big love for teaching math! Why? I was not an intuitive math student and it took me a long time before I discovered the "why" of math concepts. I could memorize the procedures, but I didn't know how to apply them to new situations. I really disliked math as a student because it didn't make sense. Does that sound like you? In graduate school, I was part of a new program to teach integrated math and science. I had so many "a-ha" moments that I wished I had had as a younger math student. I have become passionate about building strong conceptual foundations in students so they can feel confident about their math ability. Why wait until you're far along in your math career to find all the ways that math makes sense in the real world? You can do that now and feel successful as a mathematician!

I love working with math students to support their deep understanding of the "why" of math concepts as well as the "how" of mathematical procedures. Math is all about relationships between concepts and patterns, so a strong foundation and a flexible number sense is key to success.
I make sure students have plenty of time to play with mathematical ideas to build that framework. Students need to be able to approach concepts from a variety of angles to build their quantitative reasoning skills.
My lessons move from an opening question to direct instruction. From there, we move to guided practice and application of the new concept. I always find fun and meaningful ways to tie new concepts to already mastered ones.
My classes are for middle school students or high school students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, or Geometry. Let's develop confidence in your skills and many "a-ha" moments!

I taught with Julie for ten years, and she is a confidence- and competence-building math educator. She helps students see the big picture of concepts and engages them so that procedures stick as well. Whether students need a challenge or support, she is ready!
Julianne has taught middle school math to all 3 of my sons. She is insightful as an educator and listens to her students, presenting information in a way that has meaning to them. When they had questions, they were comfortable explaining their questions and understood her explanation. She is an outstanding teacher and I would hire her to tutor my sons at any time - in any subject!
As head of school, Julie hired me to take over a few of the math classes she was teaching. Julie’s style of teaching was straight forward but engaging. She catered her lessons to the needs and abilities of her students. She was always in touch with her students to ensure they understood the material and appreciated its relevance. Julie’s students trusted her to help them master the concepts at hand. Julie’s ultimate goal was her students’ success.
Julianne is a top-notch educator. She has a deep understanding of math concepts and can explain them in ways that students understand. Her approach effectively transitions from concrete to abstract, allowing learners to build their new knowledge in bite-size pieces. She works equally well with young students and those who are entering high school and beyond. Julianne is able to connect with students, infusing fun and partnership into each learning opportunity. She is a true find!
