About Dexter

I’m an experienced English teacher and tutor with a strong academic background in English Literature and English language teaching. I hold a Master’s degree in English from UCL and an English Bachelor’s degree from the University of Exeter.

I have two years of professional teaching experience, working with elementary, middle and high-school students and adapting lessons to different levels, abilities and learning needs

I offer friendly, structured and supportive lessons in English Literature and TEFL. My aim is to make challenging material easier to understand while helping students develop the confidence to express their ideas independently.

Whether you are preparing for an exam, improving your academic writing, studying literature or just starting to develop your English language skills, I will tailor each lesson to your individual goals and make sure you leave with a clear sense of what you have achieved and how you can improve.

About the lesson

I believe effective tutoring starts with understanding each student’s goals, interests and learning style. I adapt my lessons to the individual rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

For English Literature, I focus on developing students’ confidence in analysing texts, constructing arguments and writing clear, well-supported essays. I break complex ideas down into manageable steps, model strong analysis and then give students opportunities to apply the techniques themselves.

For TEFL, I use practical, fun, conversation-based activities to develop students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. I adapt vocabulary, grammar and activities to the student’s existing level and focus on building confidence through regular practice.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, with the structure adapted to the student’s needs and objectives.

I hold an English MA from UCL and an English BA from the University of Exeter. I have experience tutoring IB, GCSE, and A-level English Lit and Lang, History, and Religious Studies. I also have two years of professional English teaching experience in South Korea, teaching students from elementary through to high-school level and adapting lessons for different abilities and learning needs.

I offer tutoring for English Literature and TEFL, from students developing their English language skills to those preparing for school, examinations or further academic study.
