About Lorian
I am a video production professional with a BA in Film Arts from the Open Window Institute, combining formal education with extensive hands-on industry experience. I currently run my own small production house, where I serve as Head of Video, overseeing projects from initial concept development through to final delivery.
Alongside my production work, I have collaborated with a variety of companies as a freelancer, working across multiple roles including camera operator, grip, video editor, and color gradist. This broad exposure allows me to offer students a well-rounded and practical understanding of the video production process, grounded in real-world workflows rather than purely theoretical instruction.
I am professional, organized, and deeply passionate about film technology and storytelling. I place a strong emphasis on clarity, practical problem-solving, and industry-relevant skills that students can confidently apply in academic, creative, and professional environments.
My aim as a tutor is to create a supportive and engaging learning space where students feel confident developing their technical abilities, refining their creative vision, and building skills that are transferable beyond the classroom and into the industry.

My approach is practical, flexible, and driven by real-world experience. I’m a Type B personality and believe that learning works best when it feels approachable and engaging rather than rigid or overly academic. Having worked both in the film industry and having been within an educational setting, I focus on teaching skills that are genuinely useful beyond the classroom.
What makes my lessons unique is my strong interest in film technology and my love for experimenting with new and unconventional methods. I teach editing using DaVinci Resolve, a professional-grade yet free program, making my lessons accessible for students during their studies and long after they leave college. This ensures that students are not limited by expensive software and can continue developing their skills independently.
I am proficient in both English and French, with my formal film education completed in English. Lessons are primarily taught in English, but I’m able to explain concepts in French where helpful.
A typical lesson is high-energy, hands-on, and tailored to your way of thinking. Expect a lot of enthusiasm, deep dives into technical details, practical demonstrations, and enthusiastic deep dives into cameras, workflows, techniques, and creative problem-solving. I focus on finding approaches that suit your understanding, so concepts click naturally rather than feeling forced.
My lessons are suitable for a wide range of students, from complete beginners learning how to use equipment and editing software, to more experienced filmmakers looking to refine specific skills such as colour grading, camera techniques, shot lists, or pre-production planning. Whether you want a full overview of video production or targeted help in a particular area, lessons are customised to meet your goals.
