About Jemima
I love working with kids and pride myself on being a positive, chatty and friendly person. I strive to find a love for learning in my own life and wish it for the life of others - the best way to improve is to find joy in what you do! I feel especially confident in tutoring neurodivergent students - having ADHD myself. I feel that over the last few years of my life I have learned how to not only work around my ADHD, but utilise it for effective learning and I really resonate with young students who have unseen potential due to not knowing what learning style suits them best. In those years of personal development I have also developed a real love for learning and went from being an unorganised and struggling student with invisible potential and a “hatred for school”, to someone who has worked up to success from enjoying school and finding out that learning actually can be fun and you can find passion for the work you do, no matter who you are or what you think your capabilities are.

I am a sixth form student, currently studying maths, drama and music technology. I would love to tutor students from years 5-11 in primarily Maths and Science - however I would be confident in tutoring any of the subjects I studied at GCSE (Maths, triple Science, English language, English literature, French, RE, Art and Music) . I have always revised using visual and practical methods to try and make learning more fun, memorable and engaging. Through the process of developing these skills and many joint revision sessions with my friends, in which I helped them with topics they didn’t understand, I feel I have gained the appropriate skills and experience for effective tutoring, and would love to share my knowledge with those who would benefit from it. My overall goal is to teach, not only the facts of subjects, but also help young people develop effective learning techniques and skills that can be applied to their overall academic journey. I am happy to fit whatever you are looking for in a tutor - whether that be the subject I teach, the length and frequency of sessions and the style of teaching. Some examples of techniques I would use to engage and effectively teach students are: metaphors, phrases and rhymes to help visualise or remember facts, picture to text flash cards to activate visual memory, open discussion to engage active listening and curiosity and quiz style games to utilise active recall in a way that involves rewards and fun - dopamine is a students best tool!
