About Daryl

I am a highly experienced private tutor with 17 years' experience helping students improve their grades, confidence and understanding in Mathematics, Statistics and Quantitative Methods.

I hold a BSc (Hons) Accounting & Finance and a Postgraduate Certificate in Statistics (Merit) from Birkbeck, University of London.

Over the years I have worked with students ranging from school age through to undergraduate level, including students attending leading independent schools and Russell Group universities.

My approach is particularly effective for students who feel they are capable of achieving more but need concepts explained in a clearer and more structured way.
Some past successes include:

- Helping GCSE students progress from C-grade standard to A-grade results
- Helping an AS Mathematics student improve from a D to a B, including 84% in C1
- Preparing students successfully for 11+ and 16+ independent-school entrance examinations
- Helping students gain admission to schools including Eltham College and Bromley High

My aim is not simply to show students how to get an answer. I want them to understand why the method works, so they can apply it independently when faced with unfamiliar questions.

Lessons can include:

- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Quantitative Methods
- GCSE and IGCSE Mathematics
- University-level quantitative modules
- Finance and Accounting calculations
- Exam preparation and past-paper practice
- Independent-school entrance preparation

At the beginning, I identify the student's strengths and weaknesses and establish what they are trying to achieve. We then build a structured programme around those objectives.

For students preparing for examinations, lessons increasingly focus on exam technique, past-paper questions, identifying common mistakes and maximising marks under timed conditions.
For university students, I can work directly from the material being taught on their course, helping them understand difficult concepts and work through quantitative problems step-by-step.
I teach online using screen sharing and an interactive whiteboard, allowing us to work through calculations and questions together in real time.

My teaching philosophy
Learning new things can be difficult, but with effort and the right support, the highest achievements are always possible. Never doubt your ability to understand something; sometimes you simply need to question the way it has been explained to you. Learning is an ongoing process, so ask questions, accept help and turn your weaknesses into strengths.
