About Cindy

Hi, I’m Cindy! I am a computational chemist who recently completed my Ph.D. at McGill University, where my research focused on physics-based simulations at the intersection of chemistry, data science, and high-performance computing. My academic journey has taken me around the world: from moving to California from Vietnam at 17, to earning my Bachelor's degree at the University of Utah, and ultimately completing my doctoral studies in Montreal.

My love for chemistry was originally sparked by an incredible after-school tutor in high school. She didn’t just teach formulas; she brought fascinating problems that made me genuinely curious to dig deeper. That experience inspired my major, and it continues to shape how I teach today.

Alongside my research, teaching has always been a constant thread in my life. I have tutored algebra and calculus to college students, taught English one-on-one, and spent three years independently running general chemistry lab sections at McGill.

Because I have navigated complex concepts across different languages and cultures, I understand how challenging STEM subjects can feel. My goal is to pass on that same spark of curiosity my mentor gave me: offering a patient, approachable, and highly supportive space where you can build true academic confidence.

Methodology & Approach
+ I treat learning as a personal process, not a one-size-fits-all formula. I take the time to observe and analyze each student's unique learning style: whether visual, hands-on, or step-by-step logic—to tailor my teaching method specifically to them.

+ As a patient listener, I help students learn how to read, analyze, and dissect problems independently rather than relying on robotic formula memorization.

Flexible Lesson Structure
+ While I adapt every session to the student's needs, a typical flow includes:
Check-In: Review past material and address specific pain points.
Tailored Concept Breakdown: Unpack core principles using the visual, intuitive, or analytical approach that works best for the student.
Guided Practice: Solve problems together as the student takes the lead, building real analytical muscle.
Wrap-Up: Consolidate key insights in the student's own words to ensure long-term mastery.

What Sets Me ApartAdaptive & Patient:
+ I meet students where they are, adapting to their learning pace and style in a supportive environment.

+ PhD-Level Foundations: McGill PhD in Computational Chemistry with extensive experience tutoring high school, college, and adult learners.

+ True Analytical Skills: I don't just teach solutions; I train students how to think critically and approach unfamiliar problems with confidence.

Who These Lessons Are For:
+ High School (Grades 9–12): Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics.

+CEGEP & College: Calculus, General and Physics Chemistry.

+ Adult Learners: ESL, GED, GED Math, Vietnamese, English.
