About Laura
I love to learn and be challenged and am constantly trying to find new ways to become a better teacher and help my students learn.
Before I became a teacher, I spent many years working in the field of marketing communications primarily as a writer. I am able to apply the diverse writing experience I have to strengthen my instruction and make it more relevant. I'm also an avid reader. Books have brought so much joy and depth to my life, and I want others to be able to experience that, too.
Skills/Experience Highlights:
-B. F. A. with 15 hours of English course work.
-New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Award recipient.
-LA State Dept. of Ed Certification - Middle School ELA 4-8
-In the last 2 years more than 95% of my 8th grade students scored either Mastery or Advanced on the LEAP assessment

I currently teach 8th and 9th grade students but can adapt instruction to support 6th through 10th grade.
