About Jayret

Hi, my name is Jayret Palmerin, my students call me Ms. P or back when I was a summer counselor Coach Jay. I currently work as a Classroom Assistant in Chicago Public Schools, supporting students in general education K-2 classrooms. I also used to be a swim coach for 5 years. My previous and current experiences have guided me in helping children think outside their box and learn skills in the way their brains comprehend and maintain information. With my experience inside the classroom, I understand the curriculum and strategies that help young learners thrive. I create a patient, encouraging environment where students feel safe to take risks and develop a love for learning. Some fun things about me are that I love eating ice cream and sweet treats! And I want to travel around the world one day!

About the lesson

I use a student-centered, multisensory approach to make learning engaging and effective for young learners. My methods include:

Hands-on learning: Using manipulatives for math and letter tiles for phonics.
Structured literacy techniques: Phonics-based instruction for reading and writing development.
Scaffolded instruction: Breaking down tasks into manageable steps and gradually increasing difficulty.
Positive reinforcement: Encouraging confidence through praise and growth mindset strategies.

Experience in CPS classrooms: As a Special Education Classroom Assistant (SECA) in addition to helping other students in the general education classroom and helping the teacher in the classroom, I understand classroom expectations and how to support diverse learners.
Background in Human Development & Family Studies: I use child development principles to adapt my teaching to each student’s needs.
Focus on foundational skills: I emphasize phonics, writing, and math fundamentals to build strong academic confidence.
