About Inês

Education
After earning my Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree from the Royal College of Music, I pursued a Master of Performance and an Artist Diploma in Instrumental Studies (Piano) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Furthering my dedication to music education, I completed a Master’s Degree in Music Teaching at the University of Minho (Portugal), and a Master of Arts in Music Education - The Teaching Musician at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.

Performance Highlights
I have performed across Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Greece in venues such as Porto’s Coliseu, Lisbon’s Terreiro do Paço (as part of the Eurovision Festival 2018), London’s Barbican Hall (accompanist for the Gold Medal Competition 2021), Steinway Hall, the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, and Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall. My concerto appearances include performances with Lisbon’s Metropolitana Orchestra, the Artave Orchestra, and the Beiras Philharmonic Orchestra.

Awards and Recognition
Throughout my career, I have received various accolades, including multiple first prizes in the CCM Competition, the Ministry of Education (Portugal) Merit prize, the Dra. Manuela Carvalho prize, and prizes at both the Verão Clássico and the Musical Odyssey Summer Masterclasses. I have also received scholarships whilst studying at the Royal College of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was a finalist in the Yamaha Scholarship Competition. Additionally, I have been supported by Talent Unlimited, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, and Help Musicians UK.

Conducting and Collaborations
I have developed an interest in conducting and participated in two European Union Youth Orchestra Summer Tours, playing piano and celesta under conductors such as Xian Zhang and Vasily Petrenko. I have also collaborated with various orchestras and conductors, pianists and chamber music coaches, and explored the harpsichord, fortepiano, percussion, and violin as second instruments.

Teaching Experience & Philosophy
I am an accomplished classical pianist and dedicated piano and music theory teacher, committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians. My teaching approach reflects my extensive training in performance and pedagogy, offering personalised and engaging music lessons and helping students master complex concepts with ease. I have successfully prepared students for exams and performances, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
As a member of the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM), ISM Registered Private Teacher and a staff member at EPTA Portugal (European Piano Teachers Association), I remain deeply committed to music education. I am a certified Roskell Method of Piano Technique teacher at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels by the Roskell Academy, having studied it in detail and regularly applied it in my teaching. This approach focuses on well-researched principles of healthy, well-coordinated piano playing, integrating technique and musicianship.

Online Lessons
In their first lesson, the students' musical interests and goals will be discussed to create a clear and achievable plan tailored to their needs. I believe in a student-centred approach that nurtures each individual’s unique talents and aspirations, and aim to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and designed to inspire a lifelong love of music. My goal is to help students of all ages (up to UK grade 5 music theory) build confidence and achieve their goals, whether for exams, performances, or personal enjoyment. I strive to make each lesson enjoyable and meaningful, helping students reach their full potential.
Online lessons offer convenience and flexibility. Students can learn from the comfort of their own homes, play on their own instruments, and learn at their own pace. Virtual lessons still offer one-to-one attention tailored to their goals, and technology can make the learning process fun and interactive. I use a good microphone and different camera angles to help students visualise and hear everything they need.

Testimonials
“Inês has been teaching my daughter piano and music theory for nearly 5 years, since she was 10 years old, and in recent years online. My daughter is currently working towards her MTB Grade 6. Inês has a very supportive, thorough and inspiring approach to teaching and the online set-up works very well. She has strengthened my daughter’s technique and nurtured her musicality, greatly enhanced by hearing Inês’ own beautiful playing. The distinctions my daughter has received for her MTB Grade 4 and 5 exams are a testament to Inês’ impeccable approach to exam preparation. We have no hesitation in recommending Inês as a piano and music theory teacher. 5 stars out of 5.”

“I’ve had two tween/teen daughters learning to play the piano with Inês. The eldest played to grade 5 and then stopped; the younger one only started playing last year and loves her lessons. Inês’ approach is positive and encouraging, enabling progress without putting pressure on her students. In fact, my eldest had learnt with another teacher before but was unhappy and demotivated. This changed entirely thanks to Inês’ approach. Both of my children took online lessons with Inês, and even though initially that was enforced through COVID lockdown, we now find it easy for all involved and I don’t think it negatively impacts the lessons at all. I would recommend Inês wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a piano teacher for their child. 5 stars out of 5.”

“Inês impressed me and my daughter with her professional and engaging attitude to teaching piano and music theory. She has always found the right approach to teach any challenging or complex concepts in a way that can be easily grasped as part of the learning process. I couldn’t help noticing her calm manner, encouragement and lovely sense of humour which I believe are important qualities for any good professional tutor working with young students. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough. She has given my daughter the necessary skills and confidence to improve her piano playing, knowledge of music theory, and to successfully take her ABRSM grade 6 piano exam. Star rating – definitely 5 stars.”

“Inês was an absolutely fantastic online piano teacher for my son who was preparing for his ABRSM grade 8 piano exam. Prior to Inês, my son had been learning for many years with a different piano teacher and was not progressing as much as he should. When he switched to Inês, he made phenomenal progress, and his piano playing went up to another level, from a very low pass standard to a merit. Her teaching methods were inspiring, motivating, and instructions were very clear with written feedback after each lesson. I thoroughly recommend Inês and would give her a 5 star rating.”
