About Irene

I’m Irene, a qualified teacher who genuinely loves working with children and seeing them discover that they are capable of more than they think. Teaching has taken me to different countries, including Spain, Norway, Italy and the UK, and each experience has taught me something new about children, learning and the importance of adapting to different needs.

What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing that moment when something finally clicks. I love making learning feel less stressful and more enjoyable, especially for students who may have lost confidence or feel that a subject is difficult. I’m naturally patient, positive and encouraging, and I always try to create a space where students feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions and making mistakes.

For me, tutoring is about much more than completing homework or preparing for an exam. It is about getting to know the student, finding what works for them and helping them become more confident in their own abilities. Seeing that confidence grow is one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher.

About the lesson

I like my lessons to be relaxed, practical and adapted to each student. I start by finding out what they already know, where they need help and how they learn best. I have worked in schools in Spain, Norway, Italy and the UK, with over 8 years of teaching experience in the UK, and I am currently based in Abu Dhabi.

I am a qualified Primary teacher with a background in Therapeutic Pedagogy, and over the years I have used and adapted different teaching methods depending on the school, student and learning needs.

I use a mixture of visual thinking, mind maps, knowledge organizers, questioning, examples, retrieval activities and step-by-step explanations. In Math, I use different methods and problem-solving strategies so students can find an approach that makes sense to them. In English, I focus on reading, comprehension, writing, grammar, spelling and building confidence. I also have experience with 11+, SATs, CAT4 and IGCSE Spanish, including five years teaching IGCSE Spanish.

Lessons are usually 45–60 minutes, depending on the student’s age and needs. I mainly work with Primary-aged students and students preparing for 11+, SATs and CAT4, as well as students studying IGCSE Spanish.

My main aim is to make learning feel achievable and enjoyable, while helping students build confidence, improve their skills and become more independent learners.
