About Sara
I am a recent graduate from the University of Houston where I completed my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology as a member of the Honors college. I have about five years of professional tutoring experience, and I am currently teaching both independently and in partnership with school districts across the country.
I took 14 AP classes in high school, earning college credit and high grades for all of them, most notably a 5 on AP English Lang and a 4 on AP Calculus AB. I genuinely enjoy teaching, and I would love nothing more than to see my students succeed.

I create my own lesson plans which are centered around the general curriculum for each student's grade level, and I always research any differences there may be in curriculum between states across the US. My lesson plans are tailored to each student and will focus on what the individual student is struggling with the most. I encourage my students to request specific topics they want to work on and for students to bring any relevant past or current materials from any classes they are taking. Examples of materials you could bring to a session include graded past tests, completed assignments, and homework you have already attempted. I will not do a students homework for them, so please do not expect me to give detailed answers for ungraded assignments. I will check work that a student has completed on their own, and I will give you editing advice on essays, though you will have to finalize the edits on your own (meaning I will tell you what to change, but I will not do it for you.)
A typical session will start with an introduction of the lesson topic followed by an in-depth explanation of the concept. I then work through practice problems with the student, walking them through the process visually and verbally. For an English session, we would likely be working from short reading packets with multiple choice and/or short answer response questions, standardized test questions, or editing writing that has been completed outside of sessions. I usually do some combination of having the student read aloud, taking turns reading aloud with the student, or having the student read independently depending on what works best for the individual learner. After the guided practice, the student will be given short questions to answer independently. Once each problem is complete, I will go over the student's answers and we will discuss any mistakes. I always aim to make sessions as interactive as possible, and I highly encourage students to speak up if there is something they feel would help them more in their tutoring sessions. To end each session, I will summarize what we went over, and I will explain briefly what we will work on in the next session. For English tutoring, I will most likely need to assign writing homework between sessions, and it will be expected to be finished so that we can discuss the assignment during a future session. I am flexible with complex scheduling needs, and I will not assign homework if I know you won't be able to complete it. Examples of assignments you might receive would be: creating a bullet point outline for an essay, writing a paragraph to answer a prompt, writing an essay over a prompt, or digital skill review assignments. Assignments will vary based on a student's grade level, schedule, and individual learning needs. If a student has a lot of writing material from a class they are already taking, we will work with that instead of working from homework I assign between sessions. I try to avoid having students write full essays during sessions as writing is not an (effectively) interactive process.
I teach English for grades 6-12 and can cover 6th-12th grade English, AP English Language, and AP English Literature.

In high school when I had questions Sara always had answers from math to science to English and writing. Even occasionally now I’ll get help from her in a few college essays. Overall Sara is kind so it reflects in her ability to help with the subject and achieve success in a cohesive and understanding method.
Sara has been a fantastic tutor for my daughter. She’s prepared and thorough with her explanations. Highly recommend her!
Sara is conscientious, methodical, and compassionate. She meets people where they are at and helps them truly understand concepts, not just memorize factoids.
Sara has an incredible work ethic where she methodically breaks down complex goals into disciplined tasks that can be accomplished in daily increments. These building blocks are essential to success as Sara has proven in many endeavours.

Pricing is not flexible. I keep prices consistent for recurring students, so changes to my listed tutoring rate will not affect the rate you pay for my services unless you take a break from tutoring that is longer than one month.
I accept payment through Superprof directly, though I prefer to accept payment via Paypal or Zelle.
I offer my first lesson for free as a chance to get to know each other and establish a tutoring plan. We will cover content during the first session, though it will not be as in depth as it may be for regular, recurring sessions.
