About Marcel
I am a 30-year-old, South African Afrikaner. My aunt had a bakery that I worked at as a teenager and my uncle taught me all about nature, gardening, and tracking. I got my BA degree in Languages specializing in English studies in 2018. My home languages are English and Afrikaans, but I also studied French and Drama at university. I worked in China for 4 years learning basic Mandarin and then returned to teach online while getting my PGCE which I got last year in 2023. I am an accomplished singer with numerous eisteddfod scores in the 80s and 90s since I started singing at the age of 6. I have taught English to people ranging from ages 3 to 63. I am here to help my students, and I can't wait to make you more confident in the subject you choose!

I like to focus on the student and their interests. I see teaching as a puzzle I get to solve. Each student has different learning needs and that means my approach gets adapted for their learning style. I can speak basic French and Mandarin so I can connect the work to those languages if need be and I understand a surprising amount of Spanish. After an initial class to see what the student's level is, I can start working on their learning schedule and we would typically start with the basics, then identify any weak points and them up with tips and tricks as we continue. After that it is about learning new things and cementing old work by adding previous work in as a review. I love teaching students of any level, and I have all the patience in the world. Learning is a marathon not a sprint, if there is no time to do it right the first time then when will there be time to do it over again, right?
