For native English speakers, the idea of learning Mandarin can be quite daunting. The roman based alphabet is dropped in favour of chinese characters and the spoken word is tonal. Yet there are plenty of commonalities if you look deeper.
Most students will learn faster if they are having fun and can see practical applications for their newly earned language skills. I use multimedia and role-play where possible (for children and grown ups!) to keep students engaged and motivated.
