About Abigail

Hi, I’m Abi! I hold a degree in engineering and work professionally as a Graduate Efficiency Engineer.

Early on in my own education, I struggled with maths until I completely overhauled how I studied. By changing my approach, I flipped my grades from failing to top marks—a turnaround that ultimately paved the way for my engineering career. That personal experience proved to me that excelling at maths isn't about natural talent; it's about using the right learning strategy.

Outside of my engineering role, I specialise in tutoring secondary school students who feel overwhelmed by fast-paced classrooms. My goal is to break down complex analytical concepts into simple, structured steps, helping students reduce maths anxiety, fill in knowledge gaps, and develop strong, independent problem-solving skills for long-term success.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on building genuine confidence alongside curriculum mastery for secondary school and GCSE students.

My Teaching Approach
I use an interactive "Mastery-Through-Teaching" method. Rather than passive listening, I encourage students to explain concepts back to me in their own words. If a student can teach a topic, they truly understand it.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Quick Check-In: We kick off with a quick review of past topics or recent homework to reinforce long-term memory.

Core Concept Breakdown: We tackle new or challenging topics step-by-step using clear, real-world examples to make complex maths digestible.

Guided & Independent Practice: We work through targeted questions together, shifting towards independent problem-solving as confidence grows.

Exam Technique: We finish by applying concepts directly to exam-style questions to refine time management and exam performance.

Having turned my own grades around from struggling to top marks, I understand the anxiety that comes with feeling left behind in a fast-paced classroom. My sessions provide a safe, encouraging space to ask questions, fix foundational gaps, and turn frustration into top results.
