About John
Acting for All is an adventure in learning. From someone who may want to dip his or her toe into the theatrical pool to the more seasoned actor who may need specific coaching with a role or audition monologue. We cover it all!
Founded in 1992 by John Thayer, our production company has taken actors with zero experience and turned them into professional, earning actors. You can, too! Whatever, your ambitions are, we are here to help you along.
John Thayer has been acting/directing and writing professionally since 1985. He is a graduate of the prestigious Trinity Rep Conservatory (Now, the Brown/Trninty M.F.A. program.) He was a cast member of the Tony Award winning of Trinity Rep as well. He has performed internationally and has vast experience in every aspect of theater and training.
Since 1992, he has been the Exeuctive Producer of Murder On Us Dinner Theater (the second longest running mystery theater in the U.S.A.) (concealed information)

Bringing joy into people's lives! Be it the actor, the cast, the crew, or the audience. Theater provides that oppotunity for me.
My teaching began as soon as I started directing. When casting, I may opt for a lesser experienced actor, because they posses a certain quailty I may be looking for in a part. Sometimes the quality that I'm looking for may outweigh the actor's experience. Thus, during the rehearsal process I end up teaching the new actor, basics of acting. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing an actor grow to his or her full potential.
I graduated from the Tony Award winning Trinity Rep' Conservatory in 1985 (now The Brown / Trinity Rep M.F.A. Program). Since graduation, I have over 35 years of ongoing professional acting, directing, writing & teaching. I have extensive experience in all facets of stage, television & film. Since 1992, I have been the Artistic Director of Murder On Us Dinner Theater. This genre has allowed me to truly master the art of improv, as well. I take great pride in taking very raw actors and helping them become seasoned professionals.

Young, old, experienced, inexperienced, etc! You name it!
Find out about the teacher's experience! Also, ask if they are working/professional actor or director. There are plenty of good acting teachers; however, my experience is you want ones that are actually practicing their art, rather than just teaching.
An actress with little experience joined our group about two years ago. At the time she was a raw as raw could be. I truly thought she may be one of the rare hirees that wouldn't work out; however, she had an incredible work ethic. So, we kept working together & plugging away. She was willing to accept direction (teaching) and transformed into a wonderful, engaging, and detailed actress. Her growth has been nothing short of miraculous.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student should consider their goals for the lessons. Basically, short or long term. Things to consider: (Short term) Is it help with a part from a play you're working on? Do you want to learn how to audition? Are you working on a monologue for an audition? (Long term) Learning how to act. Mastering improv.
Be weary of teachers who want you to sign onto a long term commitment or promise you parts if you take their classes. After the intinial session, assess if the teacher is right for you. Sometimes personalities just don't match up.
If you are planning on a more long term approach, this is of vital importance.
Be sure to know these goals before reaching out to a teacher and be sure to have an extended conversation with the teacher to get a feel for him or her prior to your first session. While acting is an art form that takes work & practice (way more important than raw talent) the lesson still should be fun! Beware those teachers who take themselves too seriously.
