About Richard
Greeetings. I have been an acting instructor for over 10 years and an actor for over thirty years. I currently teach at the Chicago Actors Studio (concealed information) I have been a teacher there for over six years. I teach classes as well as individual instruction at the studio. I teach scene study, monologues, audition techniques, public speaking and on camera techniques. As acting is largely a matter of confidence, I am very passionate about teaching the mindset one needs to be a successful. If I could sum up the ingredients to be a successful actor, it would be: confidence, preparation and perserverance.
I absolutely love teaching acting. I am a working actor and I know that I need to practice what I preach to my students about the time and effort needed to succeed. Virtually all my students are attentive and hungry to absorb what information I share with them. This is very satisfying as opposed to having students who are not intent on learning. Teaching the class, demonstrating a certain technique is something I love since I am both educating and entertaining.
I started teaching about ten years ago when an instructor at the school I was studying was sick and I was asked to take his place for the day. I enjoyed it immensely and also found that it improved my acting. I've been doing it ever since.
I have been acting for over thirty years and have taught acting for over ten years. I am currently an instructor at the Chicago Actors Studio, where for the past six years, I have taught classes on Saturday afternoon. Some of the more notable teachers I have studied with include Stella Adler and Ted Liss.

I begin by talking with the student to discover what goals he or she may have and where they see themselves in 5, 10 years. I then assess the student's abilities - voice, movement, emotional availability, etc.- through a reading either by themselves or with a partner. I then go through a series of exercises that I feel would benefit the studio. Homework is usually given in preparation for our next meeting.
I work with a range of students in terms of age and ability. I work students under sixteen (parents need to be present) to individuals who are in their sixties. As for experience, I have worked with beginners to students who are working actors and would be considered advanced students
Trust your instincts. Once you have met with a teacher decide whether they are communicating effectively so that you understand what they're asking you do. Also decide how comfortable you are with this teacher. And most importantly that in addition to providing you with information, they are also inspiring you to want to learn more and grow as an actor.

My favorite thing about working with Richard is that he took the time working with me and making sure i was comfortable so i could trust him and break out of my shell. We did private lessons so he could help me with voice and diction when it came to my lisp. He had no problem in me emailing him after class if i had any questions with my monologue or scene, he’d give me a couple pointers but not the whole answer because he wanted me to do that myself. The bottom line is that he’s an amazing teacher who i would 100% work with again.
What I like about Working with Richard is he help develop me and shape me as actor he gave a good foundation to work from.🎭
Taking acting lessons with Rich has been a great experience. He has pushed me past my comfort zone, and taught me workable techniques for character development /analysis. Details
I charge $40 for an hour lesson. The first lesson is $30 for the hour. I prefer to teach the lessons at the Chicago Actors Studio which is located on 2040 N. Elston Ave. in Chicago. I will travel to an invidual's home and I have Skyped lessons.
