Since today is Mother’s Day, I wanted to say thank you to my second mom: Cindy. You have made the Showdown experience so incredibly special and I appreciate everything you do for all of us who attend camp. You make Showdown a place where people can truly be themselves without any judgement. Showdown has helped me come out of my shell so much and I am so grateful for that. I miss you, Cindy, and love you so much! I hope you have an amazing Mother’s Day!!

To put it bluntly, everything. There's never been a space where I feel more accepted and loved. Showdown is where I found who I was, where I found lifetime friends, and where I learned some of the most important lessons of my life. The camp directors really genuinely care about each students growth and development during the camp. I will look back at my experience at Showdown with a tear of joy in my eye

I really just enjoyed the overall energy that the staff gave to me. They always put in sooo much effort to make sure everyone is happy/content, and they always included everyone in decision-making, and that was just a very conforming feeling;it made me feel seen and heard. The experience is like nothing Ive ever had before.

It’s a home and family to me. It means the world and has completely helped me develop into the person I am now. I love you guys and showdown ❤️

Showdown is very important to me. It was the place where I decided I would work in theater, I made so many friends, and it helped me become the person I am now. You know that feeling of excitement you get before putting on a show? It’s even better when performing on Showdown’s stage. The teachers are insanely fun and will always leave an impact on you. As stressful as preparing a show can be, you can’t help but be happy to work alongside these insanely talented people. The special classes you can take are memorable and really helpful if you’re going into a creative job like me. The directors can be stern at times, but that just makes the show better. It can be overwhelming starting out. Still, you feel like a member of some incredibly talented family. If you’re at least a little bit interested in theater, I would recommend joining Showdown. It makes putting on a show so much more fun.

Since Mother’s Day is Sunday, I thought I would send you a letter of how much you mean to me. You even being in my life means so much to me. I could not express enough how much you mean to both me and my family. My family and I both love you so so much. If I would’ve never been brought to showdown 9 years ago, I may never have met Flip, Dennis, or you, and knowing now that I wouldn’t of had all of the support you guys give to me, I know for a fact my life would be in a much worse place. You guys always strive for me to be the best version of me that I can be, and I’m really trying to carry that out. Cindy, from the past 9 years that I have known you, you have been one of the biggest role models and inspirations I have ever had. This summer, I felt like I was gonna die from all of the pain and suffering I was going through with my uncle daily. Seeing how much you cared for me then and still, it really helped power me through this summer. If I wouldn’t have had you to talk to about all of that last summer, I would probably be in a darker place than I am now. Having to go through cancer with someone alone would’ve been VERY hard. Again, I really don’t think I would’ve found me again this summer if it wasn’t for you. I cannot wait to give you the biggest hug next time I see you! You will always be my Mama Cindy and I will always look up to you as one of the brightest people I strive to be one day. Words cannot describe how much you mean to me. Everything. I’ve never had a bad experience. I have made some friendships to last a lifetime and I think I have met some of the most amazing people. Being a part of showdown history is really amazing to be honest. I have really grown into the person I am today because of showdown. Cindy, Flip, and Dennis have basically been my second parents growing up. They have watched me grow from the time I was 8 to now being 15. I can’t believe it has been that long. I love everyone at showdown with all my heart and I hope that they know that. Showdown is and always will be another place to call home.

Cindy Marcus has been my teacher and mentor for over five years now. She is an incredibly talented actress, writer, teacher, and director who has this completely unique way of helping you find your character. With Cindy guidance, I can now compare experiences from my life and shape them into parallels with any character. Her “Intensive Acting Class” helped me center myself and find the character without judging the character. Beyond just acting though, Cindy understands people. I have never met anyone with her ability to unravel what is hiding underneath the surface. Thanks to Cindy I have made huge leaps and bounds in my own career. Without her, I would not have the talent pursue my dreams.
