About Roe
Teaching from my background as a PGA member, SAG actor, Union script supervisor (Local 871), and firsthand experience on multiple commercial, television, and film projects, students don’t just learn their specific craft, they understand the how their craft works with every department on set for any production.
I have worked in the entertainment industry since 2006. I started as an actor on stage and camera and grew into an award-winning producer for stage and film productions.
I really enjoy the work because it’s something different every day. It’s both creative and technical and allows me to express who I am through the various avenues offered by the entertainment creative field.
I started teaching when people told me, “we need more people as good as you.” Their appreciation and acknowledgement that I was excelling at the skills gave me the confidence to share and reach others. I enjoy the process because teaching very much a joint effort and both the teacher and the student learn and grow from the experience.
For acting, I studied many years with Amy Lyndon, Sam Christiansen, Basil Hoffman, and many other wel-established teachers based in Los Angeles. My filmmaking training has primarily been on-the-job and through great mentors like Mark Thomas, Chris Merrill, and more.

I do my best to customize my teaching with each student. Everyone is coming from different experiences and backgrounds. The best part of teaching is finding a common ground and building toward a common goal. If someone is looking to be a working actor, we create a plan based off that including books to read, films and actors to study, scripts to practice and more. If they’re seeking to build a more thorough creative career including writing their own material, we’ll study the idea of storytelling, writing standards and practices, and ways to create impactful characters
I generally work with late teen to adults. Most of them have basic knowledge of the craft they are seeking to know more; however, I love starting with the basics to build a foundation in which to build on.
Find someone who is a working professional. A working professional will be fully capable in teaching the history of the craft, but also bring you up to speed on the latest and greatest of how things are working in the field today.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are a few things to consider before talking to a teacher:
• How much time can I honestly commit to outside of the lessons? Progress isn’t only made during the lessons. It’s the dedicated practice that creates good habits and permanent growth. Even if you aren’t sure, definitely express this during your initial lessons to keep from frustration of yourself (the student) or the teacher.
