About Carolyn
Students in grades 5-8 have been helped over the years by my tutoring in school success skills, prioritizing and organizational support, general homework help, study strategies, and specific tutoring in Middle School curriculum, including French and Spanish study. I have been tutoring off and on since 1996 as my schedule permits. My strength is in teaching specific strategies that help students learn how to study, not just get their assignments done. In addition to tutoring, I am a full-time certified middle school counselor, and advisor for the Drama Club and Peer Helpers Service Club at my school. Additional related experience includes several years as adjunct faculty in the School of Education, Department of Counseling and School Psychology at Southern Connecticut State University. I have been awarded the Middle School Counselor of the year distinction in CT in 1994.
I have been a middle school counselor for 30 years, as well as an adjunct faculty member at the graduate level. Both of these career paths have given me the skills necessary to tutor and assist students in developing their academic success skills.

In our first session, I typically goal set with the student (and parent) and get to know the student. I assess the immediate needs and areas to concentrate on. If necessary, I will assist the student with advocacy and contacting the teachers. We make a working schedule for the next month of sessions. Then we begin our work!
