About Carla
The Bill Howey Acting Studio is primarily a scene study workshop. We also do cold reads and monologues. All scenes are performed twice each class for two weeks with a full in-depth critique after each performance. The critiques last over 20 minutes. Bill emphasizes being Believable, being "In the Moment," and Listening. And always bringing your own unique personality to the part. We teach the many acting elements that create a strong character and a strong story.

We lay the foundation to good acting. We address bad acting now before it becomes a habit. Bill and Carla are not afraid of pointing out those things new actors do that are not real, organic or believable. Like indicating the emotion instead of making it personal, not using any subtext, not really listening so there is no real reacting, not revealing the character’s inner life through behavior, not using one’s imagination along with their own emotions and feelings, and the most important thing of all not putting ones own individual and unique personality into their work and many more little things actors do and don’t do.

Howey Acting Studio is a place where you can feel like you can hone in on your craft. You will have the opportunity to practice because you get to work every week at least twice. Bill and Carla offers a Socratic teaching style where you are asked questions to think critically about your scene and character. This is essential because we are preparing you to get to a point where we can think and make choices independently… we call this a safe place because you feel like you can try different things and fail without feeling judged or criticized, if anything trying and failing is encouraged here.
