About Steph
Receiving a grade 9 in GCSE English Literature, English Language and History as well as an A* grade in A-Level English, History and Politics I've found that the key to achieving success in the humanities is to find a balance between personal interest and exam skills.
As an undergraduate English student at UCL, I've found that fostering a passion for your subject is the most effective way to achieve, and this is always my primary aim as a tutor.
I'm a passionate tutor with a love for literature who is eager to learn with and get to know my students.

I offer a bespoke curriculum based around my student's interests and school syllabus, teaching fundamental skills needed for success in GCSE and A-Level essay based exams whilst nurturing an interest in the humanities.
I ask all students to complete an initial diagnostic assessment which will be a 30-minute essay written in response to a broad, opinion-based question which they can select from a varied list. This should both inform me of the level at which my student is writing at, and of their interests and personality, we can then use this as a spring board for further learning and discussion. I will use this, as well as information regarding my student's school syllabus and assessment texts to produce a program of lessons.
In my suggested program of weekly 60-minute sessions my tutee and I will go on to dissect mark schemes and examiner's reports to develop a full understanding of what exam boards look for from students, read model essays, develop skills in articulating our thoughts and opinions and, most of all, write! Writing is at the core of my tutoring and after each session I will ask my student to produce a piece of writing relevant to what we have discussed. I will then go away and mark this so that each session begins with feedback on a piece of written work.
