About Kelly
I found my passion for teaching while earning my bachelors degree in microbiology when I began tutoring local high school students in chemistry and biology. Helping others find joy and success in the subjects I love combined everything I could want in a job: positive helpful interaction with science and continuous learning. In the years that I have been tutoring I have covered subjects from geology to biochemistry for students, I am always more than happy to go out of the way to find what helps my students learn.
I served as a researcher in a soil microbiology lab for 2.5 years, lending me the ability to easily read and write in science journal style.
My degree in microbiology provided me with a wide breath of coursework experience.
My interest in technology makes working with me virtually a seamless process.
I began tutoring with a social club I belonged to while in college. After graduation I realized I missed the interaction with students and began tutoring digitally.
I have a bachelors of science in microbiology. 2.5 years of experience working as a soul science researcher. 2 year of professional tutoring experience, 3 years of unpaid tutoring experience beforehand.

First, we have an introductory meeting with the student and/or parent(s) to discuss where our student is at currently and what our major goals are. Then, I will develop a more thorough plan, breaking up those major goals and focusing on immediate needs. This plan will be reviewed by the student and parent(s), edited if need be, and we can proceed with scheduling sessions. I prioritize build trust and rapport with my students, by getting to know them I am better able to meet their needs, this introduction gives me any first look at who I am working with.
Typically my students are between 7th grade and freshman in college. However, I have worked with individuals retiring to school as old as 33 and children in elementary school.
I would encourage students to seek out someone who they feel comfortable with. An important part of learning is making mistakes, being wrong, and then using these mistakes to improve. Find a tutor who you feel comfortable asking questions and being honest with. It's fine to go a bit off plan if it means you are better learning the material. Additionally, this is all for your benefit as a student so feel empowered to speak up when the style of teaching your tutor is doing does not suit your needs.
Recently, I was able to attend an educational garden in my city. They focus on ecology connecting students physically to their learning. I felt incredibly grateful to be truly immersed in a learning opportunity. Everything from the rain cycle and photosynthesis to climate change and genetics could be found on display behind their fence.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First and foremost I would have a clear understand of what you need from your teacher. They can't help you in a personal way if you only tell them "I'm struggling in class." I would take time to evaluate what about the class you find difficult. Is it the content? Or the way the content is presented? Are you perhaps lacking resources or facing test anxiety? Furthermore, be ready to have an honest conversation about your performance, and interventions that could be implemented to help.
