About Alexander

I am a 24 year old high school teacher with a bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island. I am employed at Alvirne High School, where I teach Earth Science, Chemistry, and Organic/Biochemistry.

I will help students increase their content understanding in the areas of Chemistry for the high school level through personalized lessons and engaging communication. I will establish a relationship with the student to further strengthen the teacher-student bond.

I am full heartedly dedicated to helping any student at any level strengthen their understanding of chemistry!

I absolutely love communicating with students. They have such a unique perspective on the world around them. I also enjoy my content area very much. When a student is able to understand a difficult concept, it is the greatest feeling in the world.

I first realized my love for teaching while working at a summer program when I was in college. I realized that my love for kids would make me an excellent teacher. While I was at the summer program, I was named Counselor of the Year in my first year. After that summer, I began taking education classes, although it was too late for me to earn an education degree. I applied for parprofessional jobs after school, and I was a 1 on 1 para in Manchester NH. I absolutely loved my 1 on 1 job, and it is one of the reasons why I think I make an excellent tutor. While I was a 1 on 1 para, the district I was in was in dire need of a long term sub at the high school level, and they asked me if I was interested. I completed an entire semester as a long term substitute. With that experience, I applied for full time teaching positions, and I have just completed my first full year as a Earth Science/Chemistry Teacher at the high school level.

I have a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island. I have worked as a 1 on 1 paraprofessional and as a long term substitute prior to becoming a full time high school teacher. I currently teach Earth Science and Chemistry, and I will be teaching an Organic/Biochemistry class next year.

I will establish a line of communcation with a student to determine their content level and their reason for seeking out a tutor. Reasons vary from wanting to get a head start on upcoming curriculum to needing help in very specific areas of content. Once this communication has been established, goals will be established for the Student - ie, what are you hoping to gain from this experience, etc. Then, I will begin designing personalized lessons and assignments for students to complete. These lessons will be done in a virtual lesson setting (like Zoom) with the current pandemic situation. Once a lesson has been given, the student will then complete additional assignments to reinforce the lesson. This will continue until the goals the student started with have been met.

I have worked with all types of students. I was a 1 on 1 paraprofessional at the middle school level. As a long term substitue, I worked in Manchester NH and taught Chemistry at all levels. At Alvirne High School, I teach Earth Science to freshman and Chemistry to sophomores and juniors.

The tutor/teacher you choose should be a teacher that you see yourself having good communication with. Someone who is easy to talk to, and who understands your struggles in their area. Being able to communicate with your teacher is one of the most important factors in learning new and challenging content.

At Alvirne High School, we hold something called Challenge Day. Challenge Day is run by an outside company, and is designed to break down emotional walls between students, teachers, and community members. One of the activities is about writing a letter to someone of importance in your life who has made an impact. Out of everyone in their life that they could have chose, a student chose to write a letter to me, and read it outloud in front of the entire group. It meant the absolute world to me, and it is a moment I will never forget.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is it that I am struggling with? WHY am I struggling? Did I try my hardest when trying to learn the subject the first time? Am I ready to try even harder this time?
