I like to spend some time getting to know my students, their strengths and weaknesses, and their best learning styles. Once I have a good sense of the student's need, I try to balance addressing the immediate need (homework help, essay editing, etc.) with the deeper need (knowledge of grammar, ability to self-edit, etc.)
