About Elizabeth

I have extensive experience with college-level essays and tutoring students. I currently work at my university's Writing Center, helping students to hone their writing skills and better understand essay structure and grammatical syntax.

I love working with ESL students, so don't hesitate to contact me if English is not your first language! This past year, I worked as the T.A. for my university's English course for International Students and I also tutored an ESL student one-on-one for several months. I can help you make your English essays sound confident and professional.

I love writing and I love working with students. During my freshman year, one of my essays was chosen from among hundreds of others and won an award for Excellence in Writing. I have the experience. I know writing can seem difficult and maybe you'd rather bash your head against a sharp object than start your next essay. But once you've figured out the formula to good writing, it's not that hard. (Really!)

I promise two things: I tell you what you're doing wrong and then I'll help you understand how to do it better, so your next essay will be a lot easier.

I plan to become an ESL teacher and work in South Korea after I graduate from university. As a French and Spanish major (with an English minor!), I know what it means to learn languages, love language...and struggle with language. I'm writing papers for my own classes every term, so I'm up to date on what professors want to see in "good writing" and how to get your writing up to those standards.

I have been trained to work as a tutor in my university's Writing Center. I also have experience working with ESL students in a classroom and in one-on-one private tutoring sessions. I have graded many papers in my time as a T.A. and know how to correct and explain mistakes to help students understand and improve their own writing.

About the lesson

I first need to know what the student is hoping to get out of our tutoring sessions. Do you want help with your English Literature class? With an upcoming essay? Do you want to spend the summer improving your writing? Then we can set goals and begin. If you want to work one-on-one for several weeks, I'll start with asking for a sample of your writing. If you need help with a specific class/assignment, we'll dive right into the relevant material.

I have worked with ESL students and with university students wanting to improve their writing. I am, of course, also open to working with middle-school and high-school students who need help on specific assignments or would like to take their writing to the next level.
