About Gwendolyn

I graduated from The Dalton School in New York City in 2020, and will be attending Stanford University in the fall. For the past few years, I have been tutoring these elementary students, mostly in reading. This year, I also coached these students in robotics.

I have taken every science class my school offers, and plan to major in earth science or human biology. I have worked in a research lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering, taken Human Physiology and Intro to Neuroscience at Stanford University, as well as been involved in a Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Internship while on campus.

I got a 35 on the ACT English section, and a 34 on the Reading section. I have taken creative writing classes every semester, as well as one college creative writing course, and been involved in my school's creative writing publication.

I am easy to reach and will always respond quickly, and am more than happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

Going into high school, I was exclusively interested in english, and found science difficult and had no interest in it at all. However, that all changed during my freshman year as my biology teacher became a wonderful mentor for me. Not only did that relationship ignite my passion for science, but it also showed me the power a teacher can have. This occurred again in calculus this year, as my teacher changed my mindset from hating and not understanding math to loving and thriving in the class.

These relationships have shown me how much the teacher-student relationship matters, and I love helping the students I tutor discover a love for subjects they previously struggled with.

I began volunteering as a tutor at the suggestion of my friend who had worked with the school before, and quickly found a love for helping students learn to have fun with learning.

I usually ask them how they study best, what subjects they care most about and why, and what they are currently struggling with.

I have worked with elementary, middle school, and high school students.

I would suggest to be open to all subjects - in my experience, a good teacher can make someone love a subject they used to hate.

Recently, my math teacher expressed how proud she was to have helped me change from hating to loving math, and the joy on her face showed me how much she truly loved teaching, which I found incredibly inspiring.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would advise students to think through what frustrates them in school, and how they learn best, whether that is through discussion, practice problems, or another teaching style so the teacher can best help them learn.
