About Alexandria

Ever since I was little, I have enjoyed learning and getting to share that same enthusiasm with others. One of my best qualities is my patience and understanding that it isn't about how long it takes to master a concept, but the journey in getting there. I will help students achieve their goals by being willing to be a student as well as a teacher. If a student doesn't understand a method I use, I will learn from them and adapt to discover what works best for them. I believe that everyone is capable of learning and enriching their education.

Experience:

- I volunteered at Parker library for two years helping grade school children with their homework and strengthening their understanding of the materials they studied.

- I worked as a private tutor for two years helping middle school and high schoolers with math and english.

- Over a summer I volunteered at the local elementary school in my community (Jamaica Elementary) helping children through the summer program they had.

- I volunteered at Thunderbolt Middle School for one year helping students with math. At the time, one of the focuses was on students with learning disabilities.

About Me:

Currently, I am a college student at Lone Star College looking to pursue my Associate's degree. I am in my second semester with a 3.7 GPA. I am deciding between majoring in computer science or graphic design. I am a freelance web designer and artist that specializes in HTML 5 and CSS/Java. I work often with Photoshop CC as well as Adobe XD in both my web design and graphic design projects. I enjoy interactive web design, building custom PCs, and learning about networking. What excites me is that there is always something new to learn.

Tutoring strengths:

- English, Math, Computers, and Design

- Students with learning disabilities

- GED prep

- SAT/ACT prep

- Essay writing

- PowerPoint Projects

- Homework help

- Test anxiety/testing help

I enjoy how rewarding it is to help a student reach that eureka moment of clarity. I enjoy that I can help them build confidence in their understanding of materials. Getting to help others is always a nice feeling. As a tutor, I like that I can be a student as well as a tutor and learn from who I am teaching.

I got started teaching in middle school when my math teacher offered me to help teach younger students. I realized how much I enjoy the process and how rewarding it is when a student I am teaching reaches that eureka moment

I have volunteer experience and I worked as private tutor.

When I work with a new student I see no reason on "testing" what they know. Instead, I like to ask them what they are wanting to get out of tutoring and what they feel the worst areas they struggle in are. From there, I then like to ask what they feel they perform best in. This helps me to build a better picture of how I should construct my teaching style.

I have worked with elementary school, middle school, and high school students. Aside from traditional education, I enjoy helping adults prepare for the GED and have done so for a year. Finally, I like working with disabled students or those who have learning disorders.

I would advise them by congratulating them for taking the first step. Getting help is always har . I would advise them to know what they need help with and explain what in the past helped them learn best.

I found out my school has a biotechnology department. How cool!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Any question is a good question! But, I would say to the student to always check the resources provided to them. If they can not find the answer then why not ask?

No, I do not as I like to first see what help the student needs. Generally speaking I charge $10 an hour. It can be less or more..
