About Tammy
At Fun2Learn Online Tutoring K-5, my goal is to make tutoring personalized, encouraging, and interactive. I don't use a one size fits all curriculum with my students because each tutoring session is designed to build confidence as well as academic skills. I have learned that teaching students to believe in themselves is one of the most difficult challenges a tutor must overcome. Despite having enjoyed different roles as a teacher, a teacher trainer, and the Dean of Students, I still find that nothing is as rewarding as watching a student realize how capable and smart they truly are. Over the last fifteen years, I've seen that students who struggle academically often feel that something is wrong with them, and they even start to believe that they aren't as smart as their peers. Many children who once loved school may start to withdraw, avoid answering questions in class, act out behaviorally, or become so stressed that it manifests as chronic illness that keeps them out of school all together. This pattern of behavior only increases the educational gap as well as intensifying their feelings of hopelessness in educational settings. It's absolutely heartbreaking to witness because the truth is that ALL students can learn and want to learn when taught with compassion, understanding, and respect. Matching my teaching methods to each individual's learning style helps prove that with hard work and repetition, every child can and will be successful in school. I recognize that if my students aren't learning, then I need to change the way that I'm teaching. I'm very passionate in my belief that it's never the student's fault if they aren't making progress. It's my job to analyze my student's strengths and weaknesses and use that data to create engaging lessons that focus on the specific concepts each child struggles with. That's why my tutoring sessions don't follow a set curriculum. I individualize every session to foster self-confidence, rapid academic gains, and a love of learning that will make school fun again.
Tutoring is extremely rewarding because I get to empower children and hopefully introduce them to a world that is enriched by a positive attitude about learning. I enjoy showing my students that their future is bright and full of possibility.
I've wanted to be an educator since I was in fifth grade because school was a struggle for me until one special teacher invested the time and energy to help me succeed. That experience ignited a fire in me to ensure that students who struggle in school don't fall through the cracks. I had intended to be a special education teacher, but I started teaching because the professor for my Reading Intervention class recruited me. I wasn't finished with my Master's Degree in Special Education yet, but I followed my heart and started teaching first grade at her elementary school. I've never looked back! It's been an amazing and rewarding journey.
I've spent the last 15 years in elementary education as a 1st grade teacher, a second grade teacher, a third grade teacher, a lead teacher, a teacher trainer, and the Dean of Students.

During our first session, I'll introduce myself and take the time to get to know the student while building rapport. Then, I ask the student what they hope to get out of tutoring. It's important to me to help the student take ownership of the experience and contribute to setting the goals for our time together. After getting the student's input, I will administer the assessments that will inform my instruction. I use the data provided to build an individualized tutoring plan that targets the specific concepts the student struggled with on the assessments. I'll use feedback from the parents, the student, and the test data to develop a fluid plan. The tutoring plan is a working document because no two students are ever the same even if the assessment identifies the exact same areas of concern. Following development of the plan, we'll use it as a guide to begin our tutoring instruction.

My daughter was struggling with math before tutoring and now she is excelling! Tammy Parson is a committed tutor to her students. We tutored during Covid so the sessions were all online and Tammy took the next step by sending manipulatives through the mail to help with the lessons. She really works at getting to know her students to understand how they learn and what will bring them success. I recommend her highly!
