About Alexa

My business as a writing, reading, and literature tutor stands out in that I care about the students that I work with. My interest doesn't lie in proofreading one paper, it lies in educating students and giving them the tools to continue to succeed and progress as diligent readers and strong writers years after our tutoring session has ended.

I began teaching at Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation as a literacy specialist for grades K-3, but found my passion in working with high school students and undergraduate students in editing their essays and giving them the tools to make writing an easier and more enjoyable task.

I attained my B.A. in English at Sacred Heart University and my M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Adelphi University. I have been tutoring for a total of four years at an undergraduate and high school level, and I recently concluded my first year of teaching undergraduate students in my intro to creative writing course, this past May.

About the lesson

I like to assess a student's relationship with writing first. (Is writing something you enjoy? Is something that you typically struggle with?) I like to create a list of goals, whether it be short-term or long-term goals, and the student and I will create a plan to achieve their goals, which will ultimately impact their long-term success in writing and reading.

I have worked with students with learning developmental delays, students on the autism spectrum, and students of diverse backgrounds. I have worked with students, who love writing and only need my feedback on one assignment, and I have worked with students, who despise the act of punching keys to put words on the page and need a little more help in the drafting and editing process. Not every student who comes to me is the same; my teaching style is flexible enough to meet every one of their needs.

I would tell students to hire a tutor who cares, not about the money, but about the fulfillment of the student's goals and long-term success.
