About Donna

I have been teaching in Augusta County for 39 years. I have my NK-4th certification and am certified in Special Education k- 12 with an endorsement in Specific Learning Disability.

I served in the capacity as an elementary special education teacher for 25 years, 11 years as an elementary Intervention Specialist and the past 3 years to to date as a special education teacher at Beverly Manor Middle School.

I love teaching children. Being a special education teacher I am very adapt at making and setting academic goals for students.

I enjoy seeing the progress and growth that students make. I love the look they get when they have taken in new knowledge.

I got started teaching by working as an instructional aide. I found out that I loved working with children and really had a knack for teaching so I went back to school as a single working mother raising 2 sons.

I have a Bachelors degree. I am currently a special education teacher at Beverly Mannor Middle School.

About the lesson

The firs day I take time to get to know the student. Find out his/her likes and dislikes, interest, and hobbies. Tell student a little about myself. Ask student if he/ she has any questions. If time permits do some assessments or evaluations to see where student is functioning at.

I have worked with students that have learning disabilities, austism, emotional disturbances, ADHD, ID, and students that just need a little extra help in an academic area.

Make sure that you and the teacher can work together. That the teacher understands your learning style so she teaches to your individual needs.

I recently saw a student that I worked with at the middle school as I was going through the drive through at the bank. The student said, "Hi, Ms. Fridley. I was thinking about you the other day." I said hi and asked him if he was ready for high school. He said no and I think I am going to see if I can be held back so I can see you another year. This meant a lot to me because this was not a student on my caseload but just a student that I worked with during collaboration .
