About Jessie
Environmental science is understanding how the world works and provides the things we rely on like clean water, food, and clean air. I want to make the topics easy for students to understand and see how they connect to their every day lives. I am a former AP Environmental Science, Earth & Environmental Science, and Marine Science teacher. I earned both a Batchelor's and Master's degree in Environmental Science. In my over 10 years of experience in education, I have mastered many ways to effectively help students excel in their academic purusits.
I started tIutoring in college with the athletics program. I liked this experience so much, it encouraged me to pursue education as a career - I taught middle school math and science for several years before getting my master's degree. After 2 years of being a student, I missed facilitating the learning process and making that connection with students, so I returned to the high school environmental science classroom.
I have a Batchelor's of Science in Environmental Science - Ecology focus, a Master's of Environmental Management - Ecosystem Science & Conservation focus. In addition to my education background, I have experience working in envirionmental consulting and wetland ecology research before I started teaching. For over 10 years, I have taught a variety of middle school and high school science courses.

First, I like to get to know my students by talking for a few minutes or communicating via email before hand about the class/assignment they need help with, their previous experience with school and science classes in particular, and a bit about their interests.
Next, I like to dive right in to the task at hand working on whatever the student has prioritized - understanding a tricky concept, compelting an assignment . . .
I have worked with students from all backgrounds and thus have a wide variety of tactics that will help any student feel comfortable with the material and be a successful learner.
