About Pierrette

Hello! I'm a native French speaker, I come from Belgium and I now live in the USA. I have been an English and Dutch teacher for almost 25 years now and I started teaching my native language when I arrived in the USA.. because teaching and helping people to learn a language is what I love the most! Languages shouldn't be complicated, I like to use real life communication to make grammar easier , apps and technology to help you memorize the vocabulary. Each lesson will be followed by at least 1h if homework, depending on what you want. I offer a 30 min lesson trial for free so that we can talk about your goals and specific needs.

I have a master's degree in translation (French English and Dutch) and a teaching certificate.

I have a master's degree in translation and a teaching certificate but I mostly learned from my 25 year experience: I taught adults, teenagers at high school and kids all ages. I like to find creative ways to adjust my teaching methods to the students. I even cooked crepes with the kids, they loved it.

About the lesson

I listen to his specific needs. I try to focus on what is important to him while focusing on real communication. I also like to correct the pronunciation by explaining how we French speakers use our lips to articulate (which is why it sounds so different from English) and how the position of your tongue can change everything.
I also teach full sentences from the beginning, I start from real life communication to teach grammar afterwards... it makes it much easier, believe me!
For Dutch, I use the same techniques.

Pierrette is great with my 6-yr old daughter. She has her ways of making the lesson entertaining and interesting for her, with music, role play, videos. It’s a personalized learning experience as she allows personal items like a stuffed toy to be the main character in the discussion. Homework sometimes involves the parents in the fun like recording a video the child is the main character of. She follows up by sending a few more videos to watch at home and provides mini kits to do interactive play like cut out fruits and vegetables to make a pizza or fruit salad and learn along the way. The lessons are structured and comprehensive. She makes it look easy and fun, perfect for a child!
