Teaching has been my life, beginning professionally at the age of 14. My experience includes everything from pre-K through graduate University-level guitar majors, 4 year olds through mid-80s, private lessons through both small and large groups (30 plus students) AND such demanding needs as students challenged with physical/mental conditions such as MS, MD, severe athritis, autistic spectrum, etc. My greatest pleasure is seeing students learn, mature and accomplish beyond their first goals!
Began my professional teaching career (at the Fitchburg Music Store in Fitchburg, MA) when I was 14---57 years ago. Have taught ever since--K-12 public schools, private schools 9-12, Professor of Music, guitar studies and music theory at University levels, privately, guest masterclass teacher numerous times over the years in Europe, Hong Kong, and at the highest level of musical education association national conferences in the USA.
Aside from the experience listed in my resume, extensive experience teaching all levels of music theory at the collegiate level, advanced theory courses such as counterpoint, harmonic analysis, form and analysis, guitar pedagogy, ensembles of every sort, guitar methods for non-guitar music ed majors, etc.

Identify style of playing desired, assess level, questions about experience and general musical knowledge, ask to demonstrate a piece or two (if applicable) to assess technique and muscianship, then establish a beginning point of studies.
All levels (beginners through Master Degrees), all ages (youngest from age 4 to oldest beginner at age 82), collegiate music majors, general students, K-12 both privately and in group lessons, physically challenged (MS, MD, Autistic, etc.), and foreign students.
The first goal of a truly competent music/guitar teacher is to guide the student towards becoming a superior musician--who just happens to play guitar. The influence of the first on the second--becoming a superior guitarist--is the key. It doesn't work the other way around simply because the tools needed to do so just aren't there. The broader the teachers background in all aspects of music, the larger the number of 'tools' to guide the student.
Being invited to be the Guest International Teacher and Competition Judge at a major guitar festival in Zeven, Germany in 2022.

Am I serious about this? Am I willing to work hard? Am I willing to put in the practice time needed to accomplish my goals? What are my goals? Am I ready to have to REALLY think, observe and learn how gradually to be up to solving problems myself? DO I REALLY WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN??

My standard rate is $80.00/hr. I do teach 1/2 and 3/4 hour length lessons as well. Recommended length of lesson baed upon student's level and to some degree, age.
