About Jolin
We are a local music studio in Wayland area, that serves local students either children and adults, with private and group music instructions, since 2005. Please come visit our website at (concealed information) to learn more about us. Our studio is conveniently located at the cornor of Route 27 and Route 30, just across the street from hannah William Playground.
We love kids. And we enjoy making music with all the students we have, kids or adults. It is so much fun witnessing students learning to play music, and seeing them advancing their playing skills. We share the joy of achievements with all our students.
I have been teaching private piano lessons for that long. And I learned that I need to have a systematic approach for young students. So I designed my own material for students. I also need to have a fixed location so that I can hosts all the teaching sessions, as well as hosting student recitals/concerts. Therefore I rented a place in Wayland and started my studio there.
I have been teaching private piano students for over 20 years, since my gradute school days at The Boston Conservatory, in Downtown Boston. I usually teach in my studio, and sometimes I go to students' hom eto give lessons if asked and I am available. I also teach group music programs for younbg children. These group programs were designed by me for the purpose to not only immerse students into music environment, but also give young children proper music training, and reading music notes, ultimately, to prepare young children for private instrument learning. AND WITH FUN.
I received my Master's Degree in Music Education from The Bston Conservatory. While I studied at TBC, I received scholarship playing French Horn in TBC Orchestra.
i received my Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance in Jazz from Berklee School of Music, where I learned a great deal of modern Jazz and popular piano playing in addition to classical training of piano playing.
I am from Taiwan, where I earned my Degree in French Horn Performance in a prominent music school there, before I came to US for advanced traning for piano.

From the beginning, we have designed our own piano beginner book for beginner students. The philosophy of our teaching method is that students learn to play piano with all faucets open to work with coordination. The eyes are reading music written on paper, the mind is processing the music read in, the mouth might be counting beats to help coordinate the rhythm, the hands are moving up-down and side-ways to help "position" fingers, and finally fingers are "striking" the keys with the command to each individual finger, all while the ears are listening to the actually notes/music played, and the whole body is making adjustments when needed.
So, we need a young students, say 5 or 6 years old child, to be able to read alphabets (C, D, E, F, G, A, B) as music note names, to be able to count beats (2, 3 4, or 6 beats per measure), and the sense of practice as part of learning process. Usually, the learning to play a music instrument is the first "learning experience" a young child has. Therefore, it is very important to foster a concept/mindset that practice is part of the learning experience. Children, and first parents of young children too, need to learn the first "learning experience". I believe this gives great benefits as part of thier young lives.
When I receive a new students, I would let the new student play piano with me. I would observe the material he/she is using, the level of the acomplishment, and if there is any bad habits to be addressed, while I ask questions about the preference of music styles, the goals of learnign piano, and any other things that are related to music, or the presumed practice time, etc..... I need to learn the student by doing music with him/her.
I will then give my opinions about how I am going to approach witht tewaching and how the student would benefit from my teaching.
In this way, I believe I can have very effective and efficient, and also fun and interesting, piano lessons plans for new students.
Young children from age of 4 and up to young adults.
adult students come to me asking for private piano lessons, mostly for jazz and chord Symbol playing.
In short, all ages and all styles, at all levels.

Yes. The fee schedule is for all students in my studio. Please read the following, which is also listed clearly in the website (concealed information)
Private lessons - 18 weekly sessions for Fall and Spring semesters
Registration fee:
$ 10 per student per semester
$ 15 per family per semester
30 minutes sessions: $ 648 ($36 / session)
45 minutes sessions: $ 954 ($53 / session)
60 minutes sessions: $1224 ($68 / session)
Music WorkShop: $ 120 (5 monthly sessions, including Music Theory book and other material)
Semi-Private lesson
Starting from this year, we began to offer semi-private lessons for siblings or friends who are able to have the lessons together. Students in the same lesson should have similar age and level to be able to learn it with fun and efficiency. These lessons will be good for 2 or 3 kids in the same class to learn the music together. These semi private lessons can be either for Keyboard, Guitar, Violin, or Vocal. Semi-private lessons are for very young kids as well. Please call to check the time and studio availability.
30 minutes:
$26 each with 2 kids in the same class
$18 each with 3 kids in the same class
45 minutes:
$34 each with 2 kids in the same class
$26 each with 3 kids in the same class
Music Workshop
We have received comments from the private lesson parents saying that they want us to provide more theory teaching and help to find ways to motivate their kids to practice at home. In answer to these comments, we plan to have once a month workshops to all our students starting from September 06.
This program is designed for the students to have chances learning with other kids together. This program is composed of Music Theory, Ear Training, Singing and solfege, Music Composition, Music Appreciation, Music Games, sharing and listening to performance of other children, and the sharing with other students/parents of the learning and practicing experience at home.
Music Workshop will be 60 minutes sessions , held once a month on each of the second Sunday afternoon. Parents can join the session at the last 15 minutes. The design of this format is to allow parents to know what they learn in these workshop and to meet other parents and discuss/share the learning experience. Each class will have 6-8 kids only. The tuition for Music Workshop will be $120 for 5 sessions with materials. This will be of great benefits to all our students.
