When working with a new student I believe it is important to assess the specific area of need for the student while building a relationship with the student. The student will be asked to establish attainable goals for tutoring sessions and then a plan will be developed to ensure we meet those goals. It is important for students to understand that this is a partnership and where the student and the tutor will work collaboratively to accomplish goals.
I have experience working with students grades 5-12. I have worked in both private and public school settings. My experience has been extremely diverse spending time teaching special education while also having experience working with students on the advanced and gifted end of the educational spectrum. I also have experience working with ESL students.

Mr. Candarelli was my 10th grade global studies honors teacher. I, like most of my peers had never really enjoyed studying history in school and frankly really did not see the point in it. Mr. Candarelli was a young energetic teacher who looked at a class on the first day of school, smiled and acknowledged that exact reality. He recognized that most students in that class shared similar sentiments. He told us that if we gave him a chance, he might just change that, he was right! Mr. Candarelli didn’t quiz us on names and dates like so many history teachers had done before him. Mr. Candarelli brought the story to life. He found a way to make us active participants in the process and left us searching for more. For the first time in my life I found myself going home and researching topics on my own time. He took history from a passive learning experience and transformed it into an active, discovery learning experience. I was not only able but more than willing to participate in historical or political conversations with adult family members. All of a sudden understanding history began to inform my understanding of the present and my decision making for the future. I improved as a writer, as a reader, and most importantly I was able to analyze information quickly and articulate myself in an educated manner. I applied the skills learned in Mr. Candarelli’s class for the remainder of my high school experience and into my college years. When faced with difficult college courses I contacted Mr. Candarelli for help. Mr. Candarelli tutored me for my classes on African Diaspora and Arab Israeli Conflict. He is an outstanding teacher and tutor and I would recommend him to anyone looking for help or support academically.
When it comes to Mr.Candarelli it is difficult to find something negative to say. Every morning he comes to work with his suit and tie eager to teach. Mr.Canderelli is always ready to work and assist every student that needs help. Students can be stressful at times but Mr.Candarelli never seems to lose his temper or get frustrated. Rather he seems to have a knack for keeping students calm and leading us to believe in ourselves. He is the epitome of professionalism and works diligently to assist struggling students get back on track academically. Mr. Candarelli is a master when it comes to keeping the classroom well managed and under control. For example we have class discussions, work independently and work in small groups smoothly. To conclude Mr.Canderelli is one of my favorite teachers (even though I don’t tell him that). I strongly believe that he works well with kids one on one as well as in small or large groups. More than anything else Mr. Candarelli was meant to teach and he brings that positive energy to every interaction with his students.
