My Taekwondo journey brought me to the greatest city in the world. A decade ago, an aquaintance told me that if I come to New York City I must go to West Side Taekwondo, one of the best Dojangs (school in Korean) in the country. 7 years ago now since I immigrated to the US, West Side has been my home. It has been an honor to be one of their premier instructors. There I discovered my love and passion for teaching Taekwondo. With my Learning Psychology acedmic experience I understand what my students need in order to improve in class and outside of class. My goal is to help individuals be successful in life through the tenents of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, & Indomitable spirit.

I am/have:

A 3rd Dan Blackbelt with Kukkiwon (World Head Quarters) certification.

a USAT (USA Taekwondo) certified Associate Coach/Athlete.

a Columbia University Taekwondo Club Coach 2014-Present.

a former New York University Taekwondo Club Coach.

a Philippine NCAA Taekwondo Team Champion '09-'10.

an instructor at West Side Taekwondo for 2010-present

worked with olympic coaches and athletes.

Before I came to the States, I was adviced to go to West Side Taekwondo, one of the best dojangs (school in Korean). There I was hired to be an instructor and my love for teaching ensued.

I start with a brief dialouge with my new student. It is important to me that I learn what my new student is looking for in martial arts. I then continue with a "starting point assessment". Everyone has their own starting point which is the primary consideration of your personalized Taekwondo program.

I have taught students as young as 3 yrs and as old as 65 yrs who all come from different walks of life and all levels of physical fitness.

I believe Taekwondo is for everyone. Finding the right instructor is the key.

My advice is to try more than one Martial Arts instrutor and you will feel it when you find the right fit for you. Choose someone you feel comfortable and you feel safe with.

I went to the annual Collegiate Nationals Taekwondo Competition. I was proud to coach the Columbia University Taekwondo team. To see my athlete achieve great things in competition and to see them develop team camaraderie was a fulfilling experiece as an instructor.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask what do they want out of Martial arts.

Example answer:

1. I want to be able to defend myself

2. I want to have a hobby that promotes fitness.

3. I want to learn something new and cool.

4. I want to develop self-discipline.

For parents. My child needs:

1. Discipline

2. Exercise

3. To learn self-defense
