About Stephen
My job as an upper elementary/middle school math teacher allowes me to come alongside struggling students and walk them toward those "Ah-Ha" moments where concepts move from being misunderstood to understood, building a strong, solid foundation upon which to build.
The part of my job that I enjoy the most is witnessing the light-bulbs go off. Student acheivement which gives way to confidence which produces success.
Every student seeking tutoring is different. They all have different goals and needs.
I ask a lot of questions to help determine the needs.
If students are simply needing help with homework, I can provide that.
If students are struggling with certain topics or standards, I can help with that.
Perhaps, there is a big test coming up ... based on the need, individual lessons/tutoring sessions can be tailored to meet the desired need.
I have a Master of Arts in Teaching from Liberty University and experience as a 6th Grade Middle School Math teacher.
I also have over 15 years experience working with Middle School, High School and College-age students.

I find that learning takes place best when there is an established relationship. I like to get to know my students and allow my students to get to know me. There has to be a level of trust between teacher and student.
In having conversations, I am able to get to know what kind of educational strategies students respond to best.
I have worked with a variety of students. From gifted students to students with with special needs and learning difficulties.
Not all tutors are a good fit! Be picky about who you choose to help you "get" math.
Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions, don't be afraid to try new strategies and methods.
Also, don't be afraid to move on if it's not working out.
I am fond of my families recent move to Florida. Having just returned to the classroom in the 2021-2022 school year in Virginia, I was afraid that I would be looked over in the hiring process in Seminole County.
However, at a job fair this past spring ... I had 6 job offers from 6 different Middle Schools. That was a fond event that was definate confidence booster!
