About Artem
I hold a Master's degree in mathematics, and have two years of previous experience teaching the subject in college classrooms. I have tutored students of various ages and ability levels, and believe that anyone has it in them to master mathematics.
I am comfortable not only with K-12 material, but also with more advanced topics: single and multivariable calculus, linear algebra, number theory, combinatorics, abstract algebra, topology, and analysis (real, complex, functional).
1) There is a deep elegance to mathematics, and I love helping other people see it; Buried in busywork are some truly profound ideas.
2) It is impossible to understand physics, chemistry, or any other natural science without a firm foundation in mathematics. Teaching math opens doors to a million other subjects.
3) Teaching math is an effective proxy for teaching problem-solving and meta-cognition (the skill of critically examing your own thought patterns). Both of these, math aside, are important skills.
4) Puzzles!
I needed a summer job, and that job turned out to be pretty rewarding, so I kept it up through graduate school!

- Instructor for Intro to College Algebra (MATH 112) at Western Washington University both in person (September 2019 - March 2020) and as an online section (April 2020- June 2021).
- Lab Instructor for Physics (PHYS 161) at Western Washington University (September 2018 - March 2019).

I begin by getting an overview of their personal situation: Why are they seeking tutoring? What style of learning works best for them? What material must they learn, and by when? How are their foundations, and are they open to review?
Depending on how these questions are answered, and on what the student wants, I can provide instructive practice problems, or re-explain content from class, or - well, whatever works!
Mostly children and college-aged adults, all of various skill levels and comfort with mathematics.
The ability to explain concepts from multiple viewpoints, and to draw connections between things which seem, at first, unrelated. This is what makes a good mathematician: The ability to spot analogies, and to change perspective.
I learned about the forest highway system- Next time you want to go camping, try hopping on Google Earth and finding a long winding road into the forest. It'll probably be made of gravel and full of potholes, but I nearly guarantee a couple of excellent camping spots. Very quiet, very peaceful. Beware the bears.
