About Jennie

Hello! I am currently a student at UC Berkeley majoring in Cognitive Science and media studies. I aim to help every student reach their fullest potential, whether that’s in math, essay writing, or SAT prep. As a student myself, I’m aware of how other students best engage in material, and I hope to change the way students interact with and understand subjects. A difficult subject, an unengaging class or an SAT slump can be frustrating and discouraging. I’m looking to change that, and show that with help and new methods of approaching any academic topic, one can make great improvements.

I can help with anything in math from Algebra to Calculus, but I am most proficient in tutoring calculus. I can also help with SAT prep (I received a 1550 out of 1600) and essay writing (I am a media studies major). I’m also proficient in fine arts and have professional experience in drawing, graphic design and animation.

I received a 5 on AP BC Calculus and graduated from Phillips Academy, a top boarding school in the US.

In addition, I have also received high scores on AP Physics C (both Mechanics and E&M), and a 790 on both Math II SAT and Literature SAT subject tests. I received 800 on the SAT general math section. I have done projects with NASA, worked with Tencent on design and held art gallery exhibits.

I enjoy helping students understand a concept they have been struggling with, and finding meaning in academic success!

I’m always incredibly excited to see students reach their potential!

My roommate was struggling with Math 1a at Berkeley (Calculus) and I started feeling really accomplished helping her understand the subject! I have always tutored students unofficially in high school and volunteered at after school programmes but this experience led me to try tutoring officially!

I have attended a college prepatory high school (Phillips Academy) and now attend UC Berkeley as a freshman. I have received high scores on the SAT and my AP exams and performed well in high school classes. I have also had professional experience working with Tencent (on design) and NASA (on an astrophysics research project). I have extensive experience writing essays, and would gladly help students plan, revise and edit their essays.

I want to first get to know a student and their specific learning styles. Everyone approaches a subject differently and I want to cater to the learning style a student is most comfortable with. I also want to establish with the student what the goal of our tutoring sessions are— is it simply to pass a class, or to excel? Is this a subject the student is interested in, or is this a subject the student dislikes? Once we’ve communicated about these expectations, we can have a mutually satisfactory experience!

High school students and college freshmen!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I need students to ask themselves if they’re willing to learn up to the standards and expectations we’ve communicated about. It will be frustrating on both ends if the student is unwilling to learn, because at the end of the day I want them to succeed!
