About Mark
If I could show you a way to get better grades(& test scores) as well as gain mastery of the fundamentals of the particular math course you're taking, would you be interested in working with me to get it?
My philosophy is that any student that is motivated to learn and will work hard...can learn any subject even a difficult subject like mathematics. I can make this subject 'crystal clear' to anyone by guiding them through the learning process for a particular topic.
I have extensive experience & expertise helping students get better grades in math & scoring well on the quantitative sections of standardized tests at both the high school and college level. I have gained my subject matter expertise by completing both my bachelors and masters program in mathematics. From the rural areas in Iowa to the combat zones in Afghanistan, I have helped students do well in diverse environments all over the world.
I enjoy helping students realize that math is not as hard as they think it is.
I got started over 20 years ago as a teaching assistant(graduate student) at the University of Iowa. Before that, I was a college tutor at Chicago State University as an undergraduate student. I have as much passion now as I did then.
I have gained my subject matter expertise by completing both my bachelors and masters program in mathematics.

The typical process for working with a new student is:
1) Have phone conversation to determine subject area of difficulty, initial frequency of sessions and any other needs that need to be addressed.
2)Schedule and conduct the 1st session.
3) During the first session we do the following:
a) If we're working on standardized test preparation then the student would take a practice test to determine areas for improvement to focus on.
b) If we're working on a class then we're going through the past exams, quizzes, and homework to determine areas of improvement to focus on.
I have worked with all types of students from the rural areas of Iowa to the servicemembers serving in Afghanistan. I have worked with middle-school students all the way up to graduate students(usually taking a statistics course).
The most important part of the teacher/tutor - student relationship is the idea of FIT. Not everybody can work together, it is most important that the student feels that the teacher/tutor that they work with that they feel most comfortable and sees themselves growing in subject competence with the teacher/tutor.
Just a few years ago in 2017, I had the opportunity to work with an ASVAB student looking the join the US Armed Forces. This kid came to me with an initial AFQT score of 21(it takes at least a 31 to qualify for enlistment) but after a few months of working hard with me this kid nearly tripled his initial score and got a 59 on his next attempt. This enabled him to not only qualify for enlistment but to qualify for the skill he wanted undertake in the military.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The most question the student most ask themselves is what is their greatest need for improvement. It is most important that students be SELF-AWARE of their own strengths & weaknesses and be able communicate them to the teacher/tutor.

My experience with Mark was Fantastic! Made my Dream come true in Joining the Military. At first my studying was very sloppy with out him. I learned one thing one day and one thing another day and by the end of the week i would forget what i even learned, but with Mark it was much better. He made me do everything in a orderly fashion and very consistent with my studying. I went from a 21 to 26 alone on the ASVAB. And then i found Mark and studied with him for three months and got a 47 on the ASVAB!! Very pleased with his work. Now i got the Job i wanted in the army and now i accomplished my goal as well! I just shipped out today and writing this review from Missouri! Thank you Mark for helping me accomplish my Dream to joining the finest military! Wouldn't have done it with out him! Get him as a tutor! Deserves much more then five stars!
