About Patricia

I have taught math for the last 10 years and have enjoyed working with students that were initially reluctant to try but ending up being successful.

I enjoy math because it increases your critical thinking skills in all disciplines. Additionally, I enjoy showing others how strengthening their number sense helps to improve their overall success in math.

I got started teaching because of my love of mathematics. I can solve algebraic expressions and equations literally for fun.

I have taught math for 10 years. My experience includes 6 years teaching math in 4th grade. Two years as a elementary math specialist and my last years (and currently) in middle school teaching eighth grade and algebra 1.

About the lesson

When working with students, I find out what is their goal. Math intervention looks different depending on the outcome. I gather as much information as possible to formulate a plan specific for each student.

I have worked with students that have been serviced in special education, dyslexic intervention, ESL, and gifted and talented.

When hiring a teacher, be sure the teacher is qualified to identify your areas of weakness. Your teacher should be able to understand why you are struggling.

A recent event I am fond of is helping a student that I tutored double her score on an 8th grade STAAR test.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what is their end goal. Be specific about goals so that instruction can best be determined. Also, be engaged and understand why you are being taught in the way that is being delivered.
