About Lisa

I use creativity to motivate students. I teach using a stundent's strengths to build up weaknesses. I have been tutoring since 1997. I love to tutor. Learn more at my website (concealed information)

I enjoy seeing the sparkle in a student's eye when he or she has grasped a concept or is really excited about a subject. This type of thing happens almost every session and it makes tutoring a joy.

I have a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and a master's of arts in teaching in mild interventions. I have been tutoring since 1997. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach which is especially effective for students with dyslexia but helpful to many other students as well. I can teach language arts skills such as reading, spelling, writing, and vocabulary. I also am skilled in teaching math up through Algebra I. I enjoy assisting with projects of all types (art, science, social studies) and preparing students for public speaking tasks.

About the lesson

In most cases I consult over the phone to find out the needs and then I get started right away with lesson planning. Our first meeting will be a full lesson which may include some assessments, but basically we get to know each other as we work on your areas of need. I also like to know a student's interests and strengths so I can incorporate those into the lesson as well.

Lisa recently tutored my daughter to help with her reading. She spent a hour with her per week over a 6 month period. Lisa always was prepared with lots of material to work on with her. She sent home materials to work on during the week to help supplement our homeschool lessons. My daughter's reading improved greatly over the 6 months. Lisa was patient and encouraging. I highly recommend Lisa to families considering her services.
