About John

I am a senior at Cinco Ranch Highschool and am in the top 1% of my class. I have been accepted into Harvard University in December of 2018 and will be attending this fall. I have taken all Honors and AP math courses at my school (currently in AP Calculus) and have never gotten anything other than A's. I've gotten a super scored perfect score (36) on my ACT exams and I have also gotten a perfect 800 on the SAT math section. I'm also very good at English, chemistry, physics, and especially biology if you are ever wanting any sort of help in those areas. I'm more than confident that I can help improve any areas you would like and I can work with you on any individual skills that you feel you want to make better, or I can help design a learning schedule that I feel will fit your development! I'm a strong proponent of practice and can find and assign materials that you can work on outside of lessons to make sure you are grasping and solidifying all concepts. As I have a strong grasp and understanding of college admissions and have found great personal success in my applications, I can also work with a student on their college applications and help explain many of the most important aspects getting into their dream college. I can help in all areas of the process, from essay editing, to interview advice, to even ensuring your resume is reflecting your best self to the admissions officers.

When I was younger, my mom made sure that I received ample tutoring to excel at my current academic levels and, more importantly, to exceed them. I found that the quick development and progress I experienced did wonders for not only my grades, but for my personal confidence as well. I've grown quite a bit since then and as I've helped tutor friends, family, and peers at my school, I've come to take immense pride in seeing others succeed in areas where they previously were not. It is truly a special feeling when I can see the click of understanding in someone's mind as I teach a certain topic or concept.

I have been tutoring since the beginning of highschool. Starting in freshman year, I was able to be a part of Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics honor society that grouped distinguished math students with students seeking help in various topics of math. I began my formal tutoring experience then. I have also joined the Science National Honor Society, that has a very similar tutoring process for science topics. I have since been tutoring many of my friends and classmates for years in various subjects and have enjoyed it a lot. I'm known to have great patience and am just as good working with very young kids as well, seeing as I babysit very often and help out with their homework.

About the lesson

The first thing I do with a new student is quickly diagnose where the student's current academic level is at. I will ask what general area of math (for instance) the student is learning, and then specifically determine the core topics the student is or is not familiar with, and work up from there. If there is a specific area of academics that the student would like to pursue however, I would be more than happy to focus on that.
